Hey, I just wanted to get some advice on what type of xbmc device to get. I've done some research and decided that for my needs (streaming channels and movies with just an ethernet connection and not using any pc) xbmc is ideal. Since I don't want to buy a htpc, prefer just a small box next to the television i've narrowed my choices down to: jailbroken ATV2, raspberry pi and pivos xios.
The ATV2 is going to be approx $240 from kijijij and will have xbmc installed along with all the apps.
The raspberry pi I can get for about $100 and that includes the case, remote, sd card. Although in this case I would have to put xbmc on it and install all the apps.
Pivos xios comes to about $120 retail or $185 from kijiji. The retail option means I need to install everything myself, the more expensive option everything would be preloaded.
I just wanted to get some feedback on the performance of the machines, quality of steams, can it really replace cable, and finally how hard is it to do xbmc on my own and install all the apps? (im relatively tech literate)
Also if there are any better options out there that I havent considered please let me know.
