Tonight I noticed that one of my externals (3TB Seagate Backup+) started clicking strangely. It kept randomly clicking when idle and then would stop for a bit and start back up. It was also showing 59C which was a lot hotter than my other drives. This clicking noise was loud enough that I could hear it from another room.
Running various HDD tools (including SeaTools for Windows) states that the hard drive is in perfect condition.
I can access the drive and have no issues reading/writing to it.
The noise has now ceased or at least become so intermittent that I am not catching it.
I decided to check the warranty status online and coincidentally the warranty period expires at the end of this month.
Would I be able to RMA the drive for a replacement one? Would they allow me to replace the drive even though technically the drive shows perfect health?
With the warranty coming to an end and the sudden weird clicking/chirping, I am worried if I leave it alone, the warranty will expire and this issue will come back and result in my drive dying or something and I would be out of luck.
