DSL, Dry loop, cable etc... internet for the oldguy....

OK... so I am currently with Bell for internet. I believe it is a dry-loop, because I don't currently use their phone service.

My cable is with Bell also... so all my cable jacks in my house are set up for satellite. Everything is completely finished, so changing cable set up is virtually impossible.

Bell is a) too freaking expensive (over $70/month), and b) not working at this time. My modem is sorta in pieces. Ok. sort of nothing... but it has been for a while, but everything was still working just fine until Saturday. I think a something-or-other from the circuit board got knocked off. For interest sakes - in case any computer geniuses think it matters, it was a Speedstream 5200.

So.. I need to either get a new modem from Bell or change providers.

I think I am going with the change provider scenario.

Need to determine the type of internet that I can choose. I assume that I must stay with Dry Loop DSL, because that is my current setup. I hear that Cable is faster, but I think I am out of luck because as I said the cable jacks are not connected to anything but satellite.... and I am not willing to start fishing wire through my basement. Is that correct?

Any advice?
Keep in mind, at this point just looking at the type of internet connection.... will choose a specific ISP after I have determined what options are available for me.
