I have a set of Promedia 4.1 speakers and the sub started rattling a few weeks ago. I finally took it apart today and discovered the foam surround on one of the drivers is disintegrating. How expensive is it to repair the foam surround? I see there are repair kits available and the process looks easy enough on Youtube but mine seems to have a plastic collar that's glued on. Another option is to simply replace it with another driver. Since it's the sub, will I even be able to hear any quality difference? I would replace the other driver as well just so they match. It's 2 x 6.5" drivers. Third option is buying a dud 2.1 set of Promedia off craigslist and using that for parts. Although who knows the quality and condition of the used set. Since it's my computer speaker, I don't want to spend extraordinary amounts of money on this endeavor.
What should I do?
