I have a jailbroken Apple TV2 which does a fine job at streaming, but am contemplating buying a Mac Mini. The primary reason is so that I can access video content via a web browser (since the ATV2 has none). There are different plugins, etc. that I can download for XBMC (running on the ATV2) but all too often, they don't work at all or stop working after some point in time. I'm not partial to Apple, but from what I've read, it's one of the better SFF computers out there that you can get for this purpose (not interested in DIY at the moment). I looked at the Acer Revo and also the Lenovo IdeaCentre Q series, but several reviews that I read indicated an issue with performance during playback (perhaps due to the underpowered CPU)?
It's probably going to cost me $400 or so to upgrade to the Mini when all is said and done (which seems quite steep when you consider that I'm getting it primarily to stream video through a browser). No actual need to use the machine for anything other than home theatre stuff, so I'm curious, how are some of you using the Mini in your setups? BTW, I do not have cable (just an OTA antenna setup), and primarily watch downloaded movies/shows and streamed content.
