I just find this on Sony.ca support site. The new firmware update now enables z1050 to play flac lossless files. ;)

Firmware Update (version 2.00)
This utility updates the Walkman® player to firmware version 2.00 and provides the following benefits:
Improvements over version 1.21:
Adds FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) support
Improved battery life
Improved sound effects function
Provides enhancements for the Music player application (includes the addition of the playlist creation function)
