So who here has never had any issues with Windows OS? I for one don't feel that paying more for something that is less capable as being a smart investment.
I'm still using Windows because;
The reason this thread is called a 'pledge' is simply as a counterweight to another thread on this forum. But I've never viewed Windows as an OS that requires a pledge. It's simply the best out there, for my needs at least. The notion that Windows is unstable or causes problems is a shameful accusation, and just solidifies the point that some people just simply don't know how to use personal computers, no matter what OS they are a fan of. I don't hold it against them, though it is amusing to see them try to argue a point of ignorance. It's been years since I've had any issues with one of my rigs related to the OS. So.. yeah.
For the foreseeable future, I'll be sticking with Windows 7.
How about you?
I'm still using Windows because;
- Choices, calling a Windows system 'cheap', whether laptop or desktop, is a very narrow minded and uninformed view. I like that you have access to the wonderful Windows ecosystem even if you don't feel like spending a fortune. But for those whom money is no issue, there are many fantastic options. There is a system for everyone, no matter what you desire from it.
- Community; Because of all the people who are immersed in the Windows ecosystem, there tend to be very large communities of supporters for just about everything to do with this OS. Anytime I've ever had a question, no matter how obscure, there is an answer out there. If it hasn't been answered, there are no shortage of people who will help solve the question. This puts me at ease, as it has allowed me to perform just about any task without the worry that I won't be able to get it to work.
- Compatibility, I tend to do a lot of amateur content creation, and have yet to find software that doesn't play nice with Windows. Whether for video editing, a DAW for audio production, or any VST's that go with it, programs/applications just work. This is a big point because seldom ever do developers of these sorts of software overlook the Windows platform.
- Gaming; I suppose this falls under 'compatibility', but this is my biggest selling point for Windows OS. The way Windows handles API's like Direct3d or OpenGL are not perfect, though the process has been refined significantly. I have yet to play a game that doesn't work, even if it requires a bit of minor tweaking. Either way, as a gamer, I couldn't possibly accept any other platform. Maybe Linux at some point..
- Self-teaching; My one most underrated pro for using the Windows ecosystem is what you learn just from tweaking. I have no formal IT training, yet between the strong communities that exist out there and some logical thinking, I've managed to teach myself a ton about how computers work, from hardware to software, right down to the shell.
- ..and so much more.
